Political Science Major, B.S.

Political Science Requirements for the B.A. and B.S. Degrees

Political Science students may pursue either the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree. It is strongly recommended that majors enroll in the methods course (GOV 393 I ) in their sophomore or junior year and that MAT 111  be taken before enrolling in GOV 393 I . Note that government majors pursuing the Bachelor of Arts degree must complete the foreignlanguage requirement for that degree. Specific departmental requirements for government majors and minors in addition to the general-education requirements are listed below.

Students wishing to pursue teacher certification should complete the major in Political Science (B.A. or B.S.) as well as a major in secondary education .

One course in political philosophy chosen from: 3 hours

Elective Courses: 18 hours

Students must complete a minimum of 18 hours of GOV courses

Additional Bachelor of Science Requirements: 6 - 7 hours

Government majors pursuing the Bachelor of Science degree must successfully complete a minimum of six courses from the Registrar’s list of approved B.S. core courses. One of these courses must be Elementary Statistics (MAT 111 ).
