Return to: Academic Programs
Students majoring in Environmental Studies (ENV) receive a thorough introduction to scientific, humanities-based, and social-scientific perspectives on the range of environmental issues facing us today through a core curriculum of either 25 (BA) or 28 hours (BS) of coursework. The core also includes an internship/research requirement, giving students hands-on experience in a community-based initiative that promotes environmental stewardship and sustainability, and a capstone course allowing students to reflect upon their course of study, integrate the knowledge they have gained from study in disparate disciplines, and apply their knowledge in an individualized project highlighting their strengths and interests. Additional electives allow students to tailor a program of study centered on a concentration of interest that meets their intellectual needs and supports their professional aspirations. The availability of both the BA and BS within the same major allows students entering the major to defer their decision on which degree to pursue until after they have taken Foundations courses in the humanities and sciences and introductory courses in the program.
