The mission of the Berry College music program is to educate students in the discipline of music and to provide quality musical experiences for all Berry students. It seeks to prepare students for professional careers in music and to provide all interested students and community members with opportunities to appreciate, enjoy and participate in musical performances. Students are admitted to the music program by audition; financial aid is available.
The Music program offers three distinct majors: a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, and a Bachelor of Music with Elective Studies in Business. Students majoring in the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music must complete a foreign language through the intermediate level. Students majoring in Music Education will meet all state requirements for certification.
The Bachelor of Music Education is a pre-professional program that prepares students for certification in the field of music education: P-12 in the areas of choral, instrumental, orchestral, and general music. Music education classes focus on methods of teaching and associated literature, development of curriculum, and professional development. Music education students are required to take the GACE in music during the senior year as well as go through the edTPA program for certification during full-time student teaching.
