Political Science Requirements for the B.A. and B.S. Degrees (36 Hours)
Political Science students may pursue either the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree. It is strongly recommended that majors enroll in the methods course (POL 393 I ) in their sophomore or junior year and that MAT 111 be taken before enrolling in POL 393 I .
Students wishing to pursue teacher certification should complete the major in Political Science (B.A. or B.S.) as well as a major in secondary education .
All majors must complete the following courses (6 hours):
One course in American politics chosen from (3 hours):
One course in comparative politics chosen from (3 hours):
One course in international relations chosen from (3 hours):
One course in political philosophy chosen from (3 hours):
Elective Courses (18 hours):
Students must complete a minimum of 18 hours of POL courses. At least one course (among major electives) must be a 400-level research course. If a 400-level course is used to fulfill one of the field requirements, that course also counts to fulfill the 400-level elective requirement. All 400-level courses, with the exception of POL 496 and 498, require students to complete a substantial research project.
