Intermediate Level Proficiency, German

Intermediate-level ability in German demonstrated by satisfactory completion of GER 200  r higher, or by proficiency testing and a combination of the following:

• GER 101 - Introduction I to German Language and Culture (Foundations F3c) 4-1-4
• GER 102 - Introduction II to German Language and Culture (Foundations F3c) 4-1-4
• GER 200 - German in Review: Language, Culture, History (Intermediate) (Foundations F3c) 4-1-4

Advanced Requirements (21 hours):

• At least fifteen hours of 300-400-level German courses taken at Berry College and/or as part of an approved study abroad program in a German-speaking country.  The German adviser, World Lanaguages Department Chair, and International Experiences director will work with students to tailor a beneficial study abroad experience if appropriate.
   
• Up to six hours of 300-400 level courses in other disciplines which highlight German history, culture, philosophy, art or other disipline.  Preapproved courses include:

• POL 465 - War Crimes and Genocide 3-0-3
• HIS 312 - The European Renaissance and Reformation 3-0-3
• HIS 332 - Nineteenth-Century Europe 3-0-3
• HIS 333 - Twentieth-Century Europe 3-0-3
• HIS 444 - Nazi Germany and the Holocaust 3-0-3
• MUS 348 I - Literature and History of Music II 3-0-3
• PHI 365 - Ethics 3-0-3
• THE 342 I - History and Literature of Theatre II 3-0-3

  Please note that these courses may have prerequisites.  Students should work with their adviser to choose appropriate prerequisite courses.
  
  Other courses will be considered to fulfill this degree requirement.  These courses must dedicate no less than one-third of the semester to the study of German-related topics. They must be pre-approved by the department, and additional assignments may be required at the German program’s discretion.
